Library of Excellence Award
We are excited to announce that we have received the 2022 Achievement of Library Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League. To successfully receive the Achievement of Library Excellence Award, the library must exhibit excellence by providing services to underserved and special populations; marketing in innovative ways; pursuing collaborative efforts; continually enhancing its services; supporting literacy, digital inclusion, and workforce development; providing cultural, topical, and educational programming; and comprehensively training its staff. Of the 552 public libraries in Texas, only 73 received this award in 2022.
We were honored at the City Council Meeting by the Mayor and City Council members on February 28th for this award. We have a great staff that is committed to being excellent.
New Program - Books and Brew Book Club
Starting in April we are planning a Books and Brews Book Club at The Ashen Rose. We truly appreciate them for wanting to collaborate with us on this great new program. What we need from you is which night or day will work better for you. Please fill out the survey below and let us know. We are very excited about this new book club.
Mark on your calendars June 3 for our 2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck Event from 10am to noon. This is also our kick off to our Summer Reading Program. That afternoon at 1pm we will have REPCO with their snakes here for a fun, educational program.
We have been asked several times how can people help support our Summer Reading Program. There are several ways you can help out, 1. Spread the word; tell everyone you know about our programs and what the library has to offer. 2. Register yourself and family in our Summer Reading Program. 3. Come to the library, utilize all of the resources and programs we have available for you, your family and your friends 4. Be a sponsor or make a donation to our Summer Reading Program. If you would like to know how you can sponsor just email our library director John at jhayden@ci.greenville.tx.us.
We are thankful for the following for their willingness to sponsor this Summer’s Reading Adventure: ATMOS Energy (Title Sponsor), Alliance Bank. Animal Medical Clinic, GEUS, Farmers Electric and REMAX Dennisha Denney. We also already received donations form Britain Chevrolet, Celebration Station, and Northeast Texas Children’s Museum
“I'm not comfortable being preachy, but more people need to start spending as much time in the library as they do on the basketball court.” -Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
